    Description

    This is an unsual and rare "folk art" soup can ingot made at the former White Pine copper mine at White Pine, Michigan.
    Someone made this on the midnight shift years ago by pouring some molten copper into a tin can.
    Then they made cuts along the sides of the can to peel it off, but never completed the peeling.
    You can see the top of the copper on one end and also on the sides where pieces of the can were peeled off.
    I have not attempted to clean it anymore than by brushing it in water with a plastic brush.
    It weighs about 7 pounds and is 5 inches tall and 2-3/4 inches in diameter.
    Most of the can still adheres and is rusted.
    Ingots were being poured up until 1982 when the mine began producing pure copper by the electrolytic process.
