LARGE 19C CHINESE CANTONESE DEEPLY CARVED SANDALWOOD CARD CASE

Description...Welcome to my auction. For your consideration we have here a mid 19c Chinese deeply carved sandalwood card case in a large size being 4-1/2" High x 3" Wide X 1/2" deep. This case was produced in Canton, China sometime around C1860s for export to the West. The case has a wonderful deep caramel color with a superb surface patina from handling and age being very deeply carved depicting many figures amoungst outdoor and pavilion settings with some of the finest details and subject matter that you will come across on one of these great collectibles containing a boat, bridges, buildings along with many various architectural elements as well as trees, flowers, fences and so much more. The card case has good thickness allowing for 4 to 5 levels of carving depth including back carving and undercutting. A wonderful piece of Chinese export art with some condition faults mentioned below.

Condition...The top lid has several splits on the bottom of one side as shown with a piece missing on the other side edge of the lid with a bit of curvature and there are some small chips here and there including a few heads otherwise it is a stunning sandalwood card case being a great example of Cantonese carving.
