Custom Plumb Boy’s Axe by Stunner Blades Customs
This auction is for a custom, vintage Plumb Boy’s axe. This beautiful and work horse of an axe is brought to you by the good folks at Stunner Blades Customs, San Francisco, California.
The axe head is an absolute original Plumb Boy’s axe head. The head was thoroughly cleaned from the inside out. The poll was hand sanded to a mirror shine. The head was given a satin black hard enamel coating, leaving clean, bare polished metal on top.
An extremely solid American Hickory haft was prepared by hand sanding down to P800. The shoulders and kerf were shaped and sawn specifically for this axe head. The entire haft was stained a special, color matched, ‘Plumb Red’ and left to cure.
The kerf was then dipped in boiled linseed oil and the axe head was secured to the shoulders. A custom Birch wedge was perfectly fit to the kerf and driven in, using more boiled linseed oil and Titebond Ultimate. The top was cut proud approximately 3/16”, cleaned and shaped to the eye. The blade was hand filed toward the edge for a sharp cut.
To finish this ridiculously good looking axe, authentic, original Odie’s Oil was hand rubbed into the eye and entire haft.
Total length of this axe from top of eye to bottom of haft is 19 inches. Length of head from middle of blade to poll is 5 3/4 inches with a 3 5/8 inch blade. Total weight of this axe is 3 lbs 1.7 oz.
This axe in a tool to be admired, but will absolutely be up to any task you could ask of it.
