    Description

Item for sale is an antique c.1820 pewter tankard, or beer stein.  Tankard has a rosette in the bottom and an angel touchmark on the inside of the lid and on the handle.  Touchmark on the lid is dated 1820, which I understand to be the founding date of the foundry that made the mug.  Also of note on the inner lid is the addition of a lamb with a flag, which is a symbol for the lamb of God, indicating the maker was a Christian.  Nice detail on the sides and top.  Finial is bent slightly.  Item has other signs of use and age.  Please see pictures carefully for complete details.
Though I haven't been able to find definitive ID on the touchmark, I did find mention on the Dutch Tin Association website where their expert noted the following, " The brand is possible from the company Weigang from Öringen (southern Germany), which worked around that period."  I haven't been able to find any further mention of this pewterer.
Measures about 8" tall with a base diameter of ~ 4-3/4".  No capacity mark visible.
    Weight: 2 lb. 2 oz.
